Our team is supported by an extensive network of global contacts, including several renowned industry people who act for Shoreline as non-executive directors.
Simon has helped to shape Shoreline for over two decades, joining the organization in 1995. He has extensive insurance industry experience, from holding senior management roles to establishing and rapidly growing his own insurance business. Prior to his insurance career, Simon was a Chartered Accountant with Coopers & Lybrand (now PwC). Simon is a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications.
Marilyn has led Shoreline with Simon Scupham for 20 years, joining the organization in 1995. She brings broad marine underwriting expertise to best serve our clients’ needs. She is a well-known face among shipowners, charterers and insurance brokers and well respected as a safe pair of hands in the business.
Captain Thomas Brown
Chief Executive Officer
Captain Brown was appointed Shoreline Chief Executive Officer in September 2018. Captain Brown is a qualified foreign going Master Mariner and has sailed in all ranks to Chief Officer. He left the sea to pursue a career in marine insurance spending seven years with North of England P&Q Association before leaving to set up independent insurance brokerage and speciality MGA, Seacurus Ltd in 2004. As Managing Director Captain Brown helped to build the company from a blank canvas. Very quickly Seacurus became known for its innovative approach to marine insurance, developing products to address emerging risks faced by shipowners.
Chief Financial Officer
Gayan joined Shoreline in 2008 and he was appointed as Chief Financial Officer in 2014. He is an extremely experienced Chartered Accountant, with an insurance focus. Prior to joining Shoreline, he has held various positions at PwC, DFCC Bank and KPMG. Gayan is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (United Kingdom) and an Associate of Institute of Chartered Accountants (Sri Lanka).
Donnelle has served Shoreline over 20 years, joining the organization in 1995. She has extensive experience in COFR underwriting, serving our diverse clientele and liaising with the various examiners at the USCG. Prior to joining Shoreline, Donnelle was with Deloitte & Touché from 1986 to 1995.
John M. Woods US Legal Counsel
Partner, Clyde & Co. US LLP
John is US Legal Counsel of Maritime Insurance Services Ltd (MISL), part of Shoreline. He has been a partner at Clyde & Co. US LLP since 2009, where is head of the North American Marine Insurance practice. John has 37 years’ experience advising marine insurers on hull, liability, pollution, cargo liability, offshore and war risk. He frequently represents insurers on OPA-related claims and issues and is the Chairman of the Hull and P&I sub-committee, Maritime Law Association's Marine Insurance Committee. Previously, John has chaired The Admiralty Committee of the City Bar Association of New York City and The Average Adjusters' Association of the United States, as well as being a former director of the MLA. John graduated from Tulane Law School and Middlebury College.
Vikrant S Bhatia Chairman, MISL Board

Vikrant chairs the Board of Directors of Maritime Insurance Services Ltd (MISL), part of Shoreline. He has been CEO of KC Maritime HK Ltd since 2008. Before that, Vikrant worked for Valles Steamship for over 15 years in Bombay, Hong Kong and Taiwan. He is a gold medalist fellow of the Narottam Morarjee Institute of Shipping and a Master Mariner. Vikrant holds an MBA, with a specialization in finance, from the Graduate School of Management, Sydney.
James Brosnan Director, MISL Board
Head of Insurance, BW Group
James is a member of the Board of Directors of Maritime Insurance Services Ltd (MISL), part of Shoreline. He moved to BW Group, Singapore, in 2012, where he heads up the insurance arm. James’ career begun following a Mobil deck cadetship and studying for a degree in Maritime Studies. He has extensive experience in both insurance, including 20 years handling marine claims as well as broking, and shipping. James is past Chairman of the INTERTANKO Legal & Insurance Committee and Vice-Chairman of the Singapore Shipowners Association Legal & Insurance Committee. Currently, James is a Class Committee member of the Singapore War Risk Mutual, a Committee member of Norwegian Hull Club and a member of the Insurance Committee of the International Chamber of Shipping.
Chris Garrod Director, MISL Board
Conyers Dill & Pearman
Chris is a member of the Board of Directors of Maritime Insurance Services Ltd (MISL), part of Shoreline. He is a Director in the Corporate department of Conyers Dill & Pearman. Chris specialises in advising on reinsurance and ILS structures, including large commercial insurers, life reinsurers, special purpose insurers, cat bonds, sidecars and segregated account vehicles. In addition to his insurance practice, he also advises on all aspects of Bermuda corporate law, including mergers and acquisitions, takeovers, reorganisations and re-domestications. He has also formed cryptocurrency vehicles using blockchain-based technology.
Barbara Oeuvray Director, MISL Board

Barbara is a member of the Board of Directors of Maritime Insurance Services Ltd (MISL), part of Shoreline. Since 2005, she has been the General Manager of Concordia Maritime AG, leading all aspects of ship finance and procurement. Barbara started her shipping career in the financial sector. For over 15 years, she held several executive roles within the Stena Switzerland arm. Barbara is a Swiss-certified finance and accounting specialist, multi-lingual and a member of several industry institutions and other Boards. The list includes the Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA) Switzerland, which Barbara co-founded.
Erik Ostbye Director, MISL Board
Founder, Oslo Marine Advisors AS
Erik is a member of the Board of Directors of Maritime Insurance Services Ltd (MISL), part of Shoreline. He established consultancy firm, Oslo Marine Advisors, in 2013, covering the financial, legal and management side of shipping. Erik has worked as an industry executive for 45 years, primarily in financial and management roles. At shipowner Arne Blystad Group, he served as VP Finance and CFO for 30 years, before founding Sokana Chartering, a fleet of 30 chemical tankers. Erik has sat on several Boards of private and public shipping, offshore and insurance companies. He holds an MBA from the Norwegian Business School and took a postgraduate course in maritime law.

Chris Clark Consultant
Former Deputy Chairman, Willis Re
Chris served as Deputy Chairman of Willis Re from 2013 to 2017, serving the company’s clients in an international capacity and assisting the global businesses. His career with Willis started in 1980 as a graduate trainee in marine reinsurance. Previous Willis roles have included: Executive Director, Divisional Director and Managing Director positions; Chairman of an integrated Marine Division, with responsibility for the Global Marine Direct and Treaty books; and several years as head and then Chairman of Willis Re Specialty Division, incorporating the global marine, aviation and retrocessional businesses of Willis Re and the London Market. Alongside a degree, Chris holds several professional qualifications and is an Associate and a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute.
John Eagle Consultant
Formerly MD, Marsh London
John plays a key consultancy role at Shoreline. He was part of the original team that established Shoreline in the early 1990s. John’s extensive insurance career started in 1970, when he joined Bland Welch brokers. He was promoted to Deputy Chairman, Sedgwick Marine, in 1984 and was subsequently made a Managing Director of Marsh London, after a series of mergers and acquisitions. John is also a non-executive director of a small Lloyd’s Broker and runs a marine insurance consultancy business.
Professor Anthony Knap Consultant
James R. Whatley Endowed Chair of Geosciences
Anthony is Shoreline’s environmental consultant and, prior to this, a Board member of Shoreline Insurance Managers. He is currently Director of the Geochemical and Environmental Research Group, Texas A&M University, and the James R. Whatley Endowed Chair of Geosciences. Bermuda born, Anthony’s expertise is in the intersection between business and science, and especially the effects on regional and global climate and how these changes affect the oceans and business. He is a well-respected speaker, and panel and Board member, with oil spills a specialism. Anthony is experienced in running large organizations, including as former President and Director of the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences. Anthony received an undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin and a Masters and PhD from the University of Southampton, UK.
Paul Scope Consultant
Chairman, Willis Bermuda Limited Market Head, Willis Towers Watson
Paul oversees Willis’ Bermuda-based operations, encompassing alternative risk transfer, direct insurance, reinsurance, captives, life insurance and annuity, loss reserving, investment advice and consulting. Prior to this, he was Chairman and CEO of JLT Park, the Bermuda-based specialty reinsurance division of UK-listed broker, Jardine Lloyd Thompson (JLT). Paul has over 40 years’ experience of the insurance industry, including 30 years spent in the Bermuda market, and has supported Shoreline since its early days. Paul is also Chairman of the Bermuda Business Development Agency and holds several other prestigious roles in the territory.
Nicholas Taylor Consultant

Nick has been part of Shoreline for two decades and is a well-respected specialist in marine insurance and reinsurance. He established NRT Expertise, a marine insurance consultancy, in 2017, having spent 40 years in the business. Previous roles have included serving as Head of P&I Practice at Marsh, with responsibility for 125m GT of ships. A former Infantry Officer, Royal Green Jackets, Nick holds Associateship of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII).
Douglas Jacobsohn Consultant

Douglas started his career in insurance with the Skandia Insurance Co Sweden. Previous to that he was working with a Swedish international Trading House. Douglas has also been involved with Shipowning in the dry cargo sector. He holds an LLM from the university of Lund, Sweden.
Kevin S Cook Consultant
Rear Admiral (ret), U.S. Coast Guard
Throughout his 36 year career, Kevin has continually advanced through escalating levels of responsibilities within the Coast Guard’s national and regional headquarters, and in shipboard and maritime safety field assignments. With a strong engineering background from the Coast Guard Academy and a masters degree in chemical engineering from Princeton University, he has maintained a particular focus on hazardous materials marine transportation – oils, chemicals, and liquefied gases, especially LNG as cargo and fuel. Rear Admiral Cook also has significant experience in major contingency responses, including serving as the National Incident Commander’s representative to BP Headquarters (during the Deepwater Horizon oil spill).
