Shoreline is led by a specialist team of senior management, professionals and consultants, with considerable expertise in the shipping and marine insurance industries. Our team is supported by an extensive network of global contacts, including several renowned industry people who act for Shoreline as non-executive directors.

Management

  • Simon Scupham
    Chairman

    Simon has helped to shape Shoreline for over two decades, joining the organization in 1995. He has extensive insurance industry experience, from holding senior management roles to establishing and rapidly growing his own insurance business. Prior to his insurance career, Simon was a Chartered Accountant with Coopers & Lybrand (now PwC). Simon is a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications.

  • Captain Thomas Brown
    Chief Executive Officer

    Captain Brown was appointed Shoreline Chief Executive Officer in September 2018. Captain Brown is a qualified foreign going Master Mariner and has sailed in all ranks to Chief Officer. He left the sea to pursue a career in marine insurance spending seven years with North of England P&I Association before leaving to set up independent insurance brokerage and speciality MGA, Seacurus Ltd in 2004. As Managing Director Captain Brown helped to build the company from a blank canvas. Very quickly Seacurus became known for its innovative approach to marine insurance, developing products to address emerging risks faced by shipowners.

  • Gayan Kodituwakku
    Chief Financial Officer

    Gayan joined Shoreline in 2008 and he was appointed as Chief Financial Officer in 2014. He is an extremely experienced Chartered Accountant, with an insurance focus. Prior to joining Shoreline, he has held various positions at PwC, DFCC Bank and KPMG. Gayan is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (United Kingdom) and an Associate of Institute of Chartered Accountants (Sri Lanka).

  • Donnelle Swan
    Senior Underwriter

    Donnelle has served Shoreline over 20 years, joining the organization in 1995. She has extensive experience in COFR underwriting, serving our diverse clientele and liaising with the various examiners at the USCG. Prior to joining Shoreline, Donnelle was with Deloitte & Touché from 1986 to 1995.

  • John M. Woods US Legal Counsel
    Partner, Clyde & Co. US LLP

    John is US Legal Counsel of Maritime Insurance Services Ltd (MISL), part of Shoreline. He has been a partner at Clyde & Co. US LLP since 2009, where is head of the North American Marine Insurance practice. John has 37 years’ experience advising marine insurers on hull, liability, pollution, cargo liability, offshore and war risk. He frequently represents insurers on OPA-related claims and issues and is the Chairman of the Hull and P&I sub-committee, Maritime Law Association's Marine Insurance Committee. Previously, John has chaired The Admiralty Committee of the City Bar Association of New York City and The Average Adjusters' Association of the United States, as well as being a former director of the MLA. John graduated from Tulane Law School and Middlebury College.

  • Paul Scope Consultant
    Chairman, Ed Broking (Holdings) Bermuda Limited

    Paul oversees Ed broking’s Bermuda-based operations, encompassing direct insurance, reinsurance, captives, and capital markets consulting. Prior to this he was Chairman of Willis Towers Watson Bermuda who he joined from JLT Park as Chairman and CEO. Paul has over 45 years’ experience of the insurance industry, including 38 years spent in the Bermuda market, and has supported Shoreline since its early days. Paul is also Chairman of the Bermuda Shipping & Maritime Authority and holds several other prestigious roles in the territory.

  • Chris Clark Consultant
    Former Deputy Chairman, Willis Re

    Chris served as Deputy Chairman of Willis Re from 2013 to 2017, serving the company’s clients in an international capacity and assisting the global businesses. His career with Willis started in 1980 as a graduate trainee in marine reinsurance. Previous Willis roles have included: Executive Director, Divisional Director and Managing Director positions; Chairman of an integrated Marine Division, with responsibility for the Global Marine Direct and Treaty books; and several years as head and then Chairman of Willis Re Specialty Division, incorporating the global marine, aviation and retrocessional businesses of Willis Re and the London Market. Alongside a degree, Chris holds several professional qualifications and is an Associate and a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

  • Kevin S Cook Consultant
    Rear Admiral (ret), U.S. Coast Guard

    Throughout his 36 year career, Kevin has continually advanced through escalating levels of responsibilities within the Coast Guard’s national and regional headquarters, and in shipboard and maritime safety field assignments. With a strong engineering background from the Coast Guard Academy and a masters degree in chemical engineering from Princeton University, he has maintained a particular focus on hazardous materials marine transportation – oils, chemicals, and liquefied gases, especially LNG as cargo and fuel. Rear Admiral Cook also has significant experience in major contingency responses, including serving as the National Incident Commander’s representative to BP Headquarters (during the Deepwater Horizon oil spill).

  • Richard Max Adler Consultant
    Chief Commercial Officer, Atlantic Insurance & Reinsurance Brokers (London)

    Richard has a strong shipping and marine insurance background having held senior positions as an Underwriter, Risk & Insurance Manager and as a Broker. Before joining boutique marine broker Atlantic, Richard led Marsh´s P&I team in London. Prior to that he lived ten years in Chile where he headed the insurance team at a highly reputed shipping company. Richard holds a Masters in Shipping, Trade & Finance from Cass Business School in London and is a Fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers.

  • George Chalos Consultant
    Principal and founding member of Chalos & Co, P.C.

    George has been engaged in the practice of maritime, admiralty and insurance law for approximately twenty (20) years, and is experienced in all facets of civil and criminal maritime matters, casualty and pollution response, Marpol, Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (“OPA ’90”), Clean Water Act (“CWA”), and environmental matters, and insurance coverage, defense, and handling of primary, excess, and reinsurance claims.

  • Simon Swallow Consultant
    Retired CEO of the Shipowners' P&I Club

    Simon Swallow joins Shoreline Ltd as a Consultant, bringing over 30 years of experience in marine insurance. Formerly CEO of the Shipowners’ P&I Club, he's known for his strategic leadership and significant contributions to the industry. At Shoreline, Simon aims to enhance their maritime risk solutions with his deep sector knowledge. His appointment is a key step in Shoreline's commitment to innovation and excellence in maritime insurance.

  • David Baker, BSc (Hons), MBA, LLM Consultant
    Former IGP&I Club Secretariat

    Following 20 years with IGP&I Secretariat as its Lead P&I (accredited) permanent representative to both the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the International Oil Pollution Compensation Funds (IOPC Funds), David joins the Shoreline board of consultants to add an unparalleled depth of knowledge on international maritime conventions and regulations.
