Lloyd's broker Collings dies

The head of research and development at Lloyd's broker Willis Faber Marine has died suddenly.

23 March 2000

John Collings helped develop Shoreline Mutual, a pioneering scheme set up to provide shipowners with certificates of financial responsibility (COFRs) for US trading. He also brought a modernising eye to the traditional marine market.

Before turning to broking, Collings, who was 53, was the underwriter of syndicate 1035, which went out of business following the Piper Alpha disaster in the North Sea and other notable losses during the Lloyd's crisis of the early 1990s.
