Shoreline welcomes new CEO

Captain Brown began his career in shipping from a young age. On leaving school he pursued a career at sea, where he qualified as a foreign going Master Mariner, sailing in all ranks to Chief Officer before leaving the sea to pursue a career in marine insurance.

To supplement his seagoing credentials he obtained an honours degree in Marine Technology and Maritime Law from the University of Plymouth. This combination of practical experience and academic study facilitated his first foot ashore into the marine insurance industry with the North of England P&I Association. Whilst there he spent seven years handling all types of shipowner's third party claims before, leaving to set up the independent insurance brokerage and specialty MGA, Seacurus Ltd in 2004.

As the Managing Director of this specialty insurance company, Captain Brown helped build the company from a blank canvas. Very quickly Seacurus became known for its innovative approach to marine insurance, developing products to address emerging risks faced by shipowners, including, marine K&R and loss of hire, charterer's default insurance and crew abandonment insurance, all of which were new to the market at that time.

Captain Brown says, “I am delighted to be joining Shoreline at this exciting time. A time which sees the company looking forward to expand upon its portfolio of specialist shipowner insurance solutions. In this regard I can see many parallels with my previous experience with Seacurus.

The opportunity to work with Simon Scupham and Marilyn Feldman, who are pioneers in the development of successful insurance solutions to complement a shipowner's traditional P&I coverage was not one I could pass up."
